INHAF
TO LAUNCH REGIONAL
CONSULTATIONS ON
HOUSING ISSUES
INHAF is a
national level organization established in 1999, of which HTG
is a partner, by individuals and NGOs involved in activities
related to human settlements. It is a non-profit,
non-governmental organization created as a national platform
to promote citizen role and mobilize civic action towards
livable shelter/housing and adequate services in the cities,
towns and villages of India.
The prime
objective of INHAF is to provide a platform for NGOs, CBOs,
civic groups, academia, professionals, entrepreneurs and
communities active in the human settlements field to debate
and network on issues, represent concerns, undertake
activities which enhance their individual and collective
capacity and make them effective in their respective spheres.
Another major
objective is to promote and strengthen NGO/civil society role
at all levels in the human settlements development field: in
housing, infrastructure development, in planning, management
and governance of settlements.
The sheer size
and diversity of our country makes achieving this goal
difficult unless approached in an effective decentralized
manner. Four regional consultations- Southern, Western,
Eastern and Northern - and one National consultation have been
planned for this purpose. INHAF in association with the
Habitat Technology Group is holding a two-day seminar at
Thiruvananthapuram on the18th
and 19th of January 2002. It will be held at the Science and
Technology Museum Auditorium and inaugurated by H.E. Sukhdev
Singh Kang, the Governor of Kerala.
The themes
for the seminar will focus on the following subjects - moving
finances for the poor, improving the condition of slums in
South India, and liaising with NGOs in South India working
with habitat-related issues. Leaders from NGOs, administrative
officers and planners from all over the country will
participate in this seminar. The eco-friendly and
cost-effective building technology propounded by the Habitat
Technology Group is in tune with INHAF’s great mission.
